Hall County Hospital opens with 90 beds (September 1). The Auxiliary is founded the same year.
1960
The dream of nurse and former hospital administrators. Hall School of Nursing Opens.
1968
John Ferguson becomes top administrator of the hospital, and goes on to lead it for the next 36 years.
1976
$10 million expansion adds 12-room operating suite, new Emergency Department, Intensive Coronary Care Unit, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, 40 additional acute care beds and support services.

Hall County Hospital’s name changes to Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC)
1980
First Love Light Tree celebration.
1983
NGMC opens first Urgent Care in Oakwood, the first of 11 throughout the region.
1984
NGMC opens its first cardiac catheterization and special procedures lab.
1985
New Outpatient Services Building opens, adding a new radiation oncology department, outpatient cardiology services, clinical laboratory, dialysis, outpatient surgery services, community wellness center, Fit for Life and administrative offices.
1987
Laurelwood opens.

The first of thirteen NGMC Neighborhood Healthcare Centers opens in White County.
1989
The Rehabilitation Institute opens.
1996
First phase of Mother/Baby Services expansion - including a new NICU – opens; last phase opens Fall 1998.
2001
NGMC purchases Lanier Park Hospital.
2001
Toccoa Cancer Center, a collaborative relationship between NGMC and Stephens County Hospital, opens.
2002
Ronnie Green Heart Center opens.
2006
NGMC becomes a “tobacco free campus."
2008
Women & Children’s Pavilion opens at NGMC Gainesville.
2009
North Patient Tower opens.
2011
Carol Burrell is named CEO of NGHS and remains in the role for 14 years.
2013
NGMC receives Level II Trauma Center Designation.
2015
NGMC Braselton opens as a new 100-bed hospital near the convergence of Hall, Jackson, Gwinnett, and Barrow counties.
2017
Barrow Regional Medical Center joins NGHS and becomes NGMC Barrow (January 1).
2019
Graduate Medical Education (GME) begins.
2020
NGMC Braselton admits its first Covid patient (March 15) beginning two years of daily engagement and treatment not just of the disease, but of informing and guiding communities through the pandemic.

NGMC Gainesville receives Level I Trauma Center Designation.

Habersham Medical Center joins NGHS.
2024
NGMC Lumpkin re-opens at new facility.

Green Tower opens at NGMC Gainesville.
